Benzene Side Effects

  • Home

Benzene is a flammable chemical that is clear and has a sweet odor. Benzene is found in crude oil, gasoline, other fuels and cigarette smoke. Benzene is used to make plastics, synthetic fibers, and a wide range of consumer and industrial products.

Exposure to large amounts of benzene can be hazardous to your health. It can cause serious medical conditions. Benzene exposure is a major risk to those who work in chemical plants, refineries, shipyards, and in the construction industry.

Some common materials and products that contain benzene are: adhesives, asphalts, calibrating fluid, charcoal lighter fluid, cigarette lighter fluid, contact cement, gasoline, glues, kerosene, hydraulic fluids, ink and ink markers, lacquer thinner, pesticides, processing film, rubber cement, solvents, and vinyl thinner.

Plant workers and construction workers in petrochemical and petrochemical refining industries may be at risk of benzene exposure. Other industries may expose their workers to benzene because of their occupations. A worker may also be exposed to high levels of benzene if you are in the rubber industry, printing industry, pesticides industry, paint or varnish industry, waste management, or steel industry.

The side effects of being exposed to high levels of benzene are:

  • Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML)
  • Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
  • Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
  • Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)
  • Myelofibrosis and Myeloid Metaplasia
  • Aplastic Anemia
  • Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL)
  • Multiple Myeloma
  • Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)
  • Hematologic Cancers

If you or someone you know has developed leukemia, anemia, or another serious medical condition as a result of exposure to benzene, we may be able to help you. Please call us at Longo Legal, PLLC to speak with a knowledgeable benzene lawyer at 855-566-4648.
