Consumer Reports Advises Avioding Actos Due To Side Effects

  • Home

Consumer Reports is an independent consumer review magazine. A recent reveiw by Consumer Reports of the type-2 diabetes drug Actos, advises consumers to take Actos as a last resort, when all other methods of treatments have failed. Actos has been linked to congestive heart failure and bladder cancer. Consumer Roports said that Actos is a danger. The magazine suggests that diabetes patients take metformin, glipizide or glimepiride, which all have a better safety profile.

Introduced in 1999, Actos (pioglitazone) has been a top selling drug for type-2 diabetes patients. Now, however, Actos may be responsible for many potentially deadly diseases. The FDA has issued a black-box warning because of the heart failure risk associated with Actos. There are also studies that show a link between Actos and bladder cancer.

Many consumers have already filed legal action against Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Actos’ manufacturer. Injured plaintiffs say the company hid the risks of Actos, despite having multiple studies pointing to bladder cancer and heart failure. There may be up to 10,000 patients who will sue Takeda. There is currently legal action against the company pending in a Louisiana federal court and state courts in California and Illinois.

If you took Actos and developed bladder cancer, congestive heart failure, or other side effects, call Longo Legal, PLLC toll free at 855-566-4648. We may be able to help.
