GM has said a sensing module that controls airbag deployment has a software defect that may prevent the frontal airbags from working properly. Nearly 4.3 million vehicles may have this software defect that can prevent airbags from deploying during a crash. It is estimated that one death and three injuries have occurred.

Takata Airbags
Takata, a Japanese auto supplier, has airbag problems as well. But, instead of not deploying, Takata has shrapnel-shooting inflator parts. Those problems have escalated in the past three years as fatalities linked to the inflators have risen, triggering recalls and lawsuits. Approximately 34 million vehicles are potentially affected in the United States, and another 7 million have been recalled worldwide.
