Yaz Settlements

  • Home

Bayer (the makers of Yaz and Yasmin) are contacting some lawyers who represent women who have been injured after taking the Yaz/Yasmin birth control to possibly settle their case. Many of these clients have a pulmonary embolism and/or deep vein thrombosis (DVT) claim.

Approximately 11,300 lawsuits have been filed by attorneys representing Yaz victims, according to Bayer’s 2011 Annual Report. Of these, Bayer has agreed to settle approximately 70 lawsuits. The amount of the settlements has not been disclosed.

In 2006, Yaz was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Drospirenone, (a synthetic form of progrestin) is the drug’s primary ingredient. Drospirenone may be linked to a number of serious complications that have been reported by Yaz consumers. These side effects of Yaz could be blood clots, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and stroke. The United States Food and Drug Administration announced that women who used Yaz were up to 75% more likely to develop a serious blood clot. In December 2011 an FDA advisory panel set up by the FDA discussed the safety of Yaz according to research findings. Members of the FDA panel on Yaz voted to allow Yaz to remain on the market but recommended stronger warning labels for the drug.

If you or someone you love has experienced serious or fatal blood clots or other complications associated with the usage of Yaz or Yasmin, speak to a drug injury attorney today by calling 1-855-566-4648 or filling out the Longo Legal contact form.
