Zoloft® Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed

  • Home

Paula Peska and Scott Day, a couple in Missouri, have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Pfizer. The couple claims that the mother’s use of , an antidepressant, during her pregnancy was the cause of her child’s severe birth defects and heart problems that eventually led to the death of the child.

The complaint stated that Peska took Zoloft® during her pregnancy, causing her child to be born with multiple heart defects. The newborn was pronounced dead the day after birth.

The newborn experienced multiple alleged , including:

  • Tetralogy of Fallot,
  • Truncus Arteriosus,
  • Ventrical Septal Defect,
  • Atrial Septal Defect,
  • Confluent Branch Pulmonary Arteries,
  • Pulmonary Valve Atresia,
  • and other Cardiopulmonary Defects

The family believes Pfizer was aware of these side effects but chose to cover up data proving that Zoloft® is dangerous and sometimes fatal for pregnant women and their unborn children.

This lawsuit is not the first against Pfizer regarding the use of Zoloft® in pregnant women. Numerous other Zoloft® birth defect lawsuits have appeared in recent months. The lawsuits all agree that Pfizer failed in providing adequate warnings about the risks of Zoloft® in pregnant women.

According to the lawsuit, ” Pfizer knew of the dangerous birth defects associated with Zoloft® use during pregnancy from the preclinical studies and the subsequent published studies confirming these risks. Pfizer took no action to properly study Zoloft® or did not properly publish the results of studies it did do, which would have reflected that risk. Pfizer failed to adequately warn or remedy the risks, but instead concealed, suppressed and failed to disclose the dangers. Even in the face of numerous published studies, Pfizer continues to deny these dangers and will not revise its drug labeling.”
